Early in the COVID-19 crisis, the world was quiet and contemplative. My family and I enjoyed many quiet evenings around our bonfire - roasting marshmallows, watching the placement of the stars and planets change throughout the evening, and listening to the wind and distant thunder.
On one of these quiet evenings, the idea hatched to record some ambient guitar compositions, harkening back to the early days of King Never. Since rehearsing and recording with the band was on hold due to the various stay-at-home orders in place, it seemed like just the remedy for a restless creative soul.
Shortly after the first guitar loop was recorded, some lyrical fragments began to develop. Then, a simple reverb-drenched guitar figure took form…and then a melody. Soon it became clear the piece needed bass and drums to be complete.
While we may have bent the rules a bit to get the recording done, the end result was worth it.
I hope you enjoy our new song, “World Gone Quiet.”
